A memorial ride will take place June 9th, 2015, in honour of the two cyclists who lost their lives while cycling the roads just North of Pemberton on May 31st, 2015.

Kelly Blunden, 53, and Ross Chafe, 50

3 cyclists were riding their bikes near Duffy Lake Road, when a motorist struck and killed Kelly Blunden and Ross Chafe. The third cyclist was about 100 metres behind, and narrowly missed being involved. The motorist’s sole passenger was also killed.

Both Kelly Blunden and Ross Chafe were actively involved in the Whistler Cycling Club and the community at large. Anyone wishing to take part in the memorial ride is welcome to do so, and is asked to gather outside of Whistler Village Sports at 5:15 p.m. The slow, processional ride will be police-escorted, looping two times around the center of Whistler. The procession will enter Blackcomb Way at Sundial Crescent, proceed past Municipal Hall to Lorimer Road, then to the Upper Village and back to the start at Sundial Crescent to begin a second loop. Following the Village loops, the club ride will continue out to the Callaghan.

If you have a Whistler Cycling Club jersey you are encouraged to wear it proudly.
