The Sunshine Coast Regional District Board voted against approval of the Burnco Environmental Assessment Application last week.

It was noted that the ecological recovery of Howe Sound has been the result of concerted efforts to re-mediate the impacts of previous industrial projects, and that this project may pose a risk to the recovery.

The Board said they couldn’t support the application as presented at this time.

Burnco wants to build a new sand and gravel mine on the northwest shore of Howe Sound, 22 kilometres southwest of Squamish.
