West Vancouver–Sunshine Coast–Sea to Sky Country MP, Pamela Goldsmith-Jones announced in Squamish on Saturday that the West Coast Railway Association would receive funding to support it’s heritage preservation and expansion efforts.

Goldsmith-Jones said the success of the Heritage Park is a testament to the dedication and hard work of over 1,500 volunteers.

The $1 million of funding is being provided through the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund and will be used to purchase and renovate a former BC Rail work shop, including a 3-storey office facility on the west side of the building and its surrounding 5 acres.

Funding will also support efforts to upgrade the railway shop by installing new security and fire prevention systems, as well as insulation upgrades to ensure climate and moisture control.

The organization has the second largest collection of vintage locomotives in the country.
