After 10 years, The Alpine Club of Canada – Whistler Section and the Spearhead Huts Society has officially broken ground on the site of the Kees and Clair Hut at Russet Lake.

The ground breaking follows approval by BC Parks for the first of three huts to be built in the Spearhead Huts system. Excavation is now underway to put in the foundations this summer. Construction of the hut structure will then take place next summer, with the hut projected to open in January 2019.

The two-phase schedule allows the construction team’s ability to react to changing weather conditions, snow pack variations, helicopter availability, and other variables.

The Kees and Claire Hut still needs additional funding to build important additional amenities, as well as volunteers to help build the facility. You can learn more and donate by clicking here.
