Full disclosure, we got VERY excited when it was announced that Brampton, Ontario native Alessia Cara took hook the statue for Best New Artist at tonight’s GRAMMYs!

“Holy cow! Wow. I’ve been pretend winning GRAMMYs since I was a kid in my shower. You’d think I’d have this speech thing down but I absolutely don’t” is how Alessia started off her acceptance speech, proving that she’s come along way and that she’s JUST getting started!

Alessia went on to thank her family for believing in her and then she had a special message to her fans, “thank you for standing by me and being so supportive.  This is for you and you guys are the reason that I don’t have to win GRAMMYs in my shower anymore.”

But it was her final message to young artists that really struck a chord, “there are some incredible artists out there that are making some incredible music that deserve to be acknowledge, that don’t always get acknowledged because of popularity contests or a numbers game and that’s kind of unfortunate so I just wanted to encourage everyone to support real music and real artists because everyone deserves the same shot!”

Alessia was in tough going up against, Khalid, SZA, Julia Michaels and Lil Uzi Vert.

She joins the likes of Adele, Maroon 5 Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera and Alicia Keys who have all won the GRAMMY for Best New Artist in the past.

We do have one question though, did she think of those haters during her speech…

CONGRATS Alessia!
