22-year-old Mamoudou Gassama was walking by a Paris apartment building when he spotted a toddler dangling perilously from the balcony of a fourth floor flat.

The Malian immigrant, who was previously living in France illegally, didn’t think twice before quickly scaling the wall and pulling the crying four-year-old to safety in a seemingly super-human feat that has earned him several variations of the nickname “Le Spider-man.”

The video footage went viral immediately, and for good reason. Check this out!

The footage garnered global attention, including that of the French President Emmanuel Macron. Instead of being deported due to his illegal status in the country, Gassama was invited to meet President Macron, at which point he was honoured with a medal for an act of “bravery and devotion,” official government documents allowing him to live legally in the country, and a fast-track process to gain French citizenship. Macron also offered Gassama a job as a firefighter for the city of Paris.
