Alice Lake is closed until further notice as police search for a missing man.

Squamish RCMP say they were called to Alice Lake at approximately 8:15 p.m. on June 20th after a call from a bystander who said they heard someone screaming about a man in the water.

RCMP, Search & Rescue, Fire Services, and the BC Ambulance Service attended the scene and began to search for the man. According to an RCMP media release ground, air, and water searches were conducted with negative results

The missing person is a 20 year old man from Delta, and is said to have be swimming in the area with friends when he went into distress close to the shoreline on the Southwest side of the lake. Police say his friends and bystanders immediately searched the area for him and called for help.

“The search continues this morning and Squamish RCMP has engaged the assistance of the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team” says Corporal Sascha Banks.

Police are in contact with the man’s family but say his name will not be released at this time. Anyone who may have information relevant to the search is asked to contact the Squamish RCMP at 604-892-6100 or call 911.

The Alice Lake Provincial Park campground remains open.
