The Whistler Film Festival (WFF) has announced that former NHL All-Star and Stanley Cup winner Theo Fleury will receive the 2016 WFF Humanitarian Award for his commitment to making a difference.

He’s attending the Festival with the Canadian premiere of Michael David Lynch’s ‘Victor Walk’, a documentary that chronicles his ten day 400 kilometre walk from Toronto to Ottawa along Highway 7 in May 2013, to draw attention to the light sentences handed out to convicted pedophiles in Canada. In a release WFF says they’re honoured to shine a spotlight on Fleury and this important issue as part of their Signature Series.

Theo Fleury and director Michael David Lynch will take part in a discussion about the issues surrounding the film on December 3rd at 8:00pm at the Maury Young Arts Centre in Whistler.

The Whistler Film Festival kicked off today and runs until December 4th.
