The BC Wildfire Service says crews will be conducting a series of controlled pile burns in the Pemberton area in October and November to remove logging debris and reduce the risk of wildfires in the area.

Burning could begin today, but since timing is dependent on weather conditions, the exact date of the burns cannot be determined in advance.

While the piles are burning, smoke will be visible from the communities of Pemberton, Pemberton Meadows, Mount Currie and surrounding areas.

The BC Wildfire Service says fires will be carefully monitored at all times.
