The Gibsons and District Fire Department is looking for new recruits on the Sunshine Coast.

The department is looking for people who are keen to volunteer in the community and help people on a day to day basis. Currently there are 35 volunteers, but another 5 are needed.

George Williams, Training Officer and Captain of the Gibsons and District Fire Department says no particular skills or previous experience is necessary, as all training will be provided. “What we’ll do is provide them with First Responder training, which is First Aid training. We’ll provide them with how to use hoses, how to drive trucks, how to pump. It does take a little bit of time, it takes usually six months before we can get them responding, but it is very rewarding in the end”.

If you’d like to commit for more than 2 years (ideally at least 5) and are available on Wednesday nights for training, you can find an application form at the Fire Hall or online at GibsonsFire.ca. The deadline to apply is January 31st.
