A volunteer group who clean up lakes in B.C. dug up over 100 pounds of garbage in Squamish at the weekend.

The group, based in North Vancouver was at Cat Lake with three divers on May 13th to remove garbage in the water. Henry Wang, Co-Founder of Divers for Cleaner Lakes and Oceans says they execute dives all over the Lower Mainland and Sea to Sky region.

Wang says they go back to various locations based on how much garbage there is; “Cat Lake is one of the more polluted lakes around, so we generally try to hit it once a year to remove the garbage people leave behind – this is the garbage in the water, so it’s very difficult to retrieve”.

In previous dives to the lake the group has collected hundreds of pounds of garbage, on this occasion it was 102.3 lbs. Wang says they will be back in June for another dive at the site where they’ll go into deeper water.
