New BC Transit buses are making their way to the Sunshine Coast, at a cost of almost $320,000 each.

A total of 6 new buses will be in service by the end of the summer to support system expansion in the fall. The new buses have better fuel efficiency as well as improved maneuverability and are lighter in weight, which are better suited for routes in Lower Gibsons and Roberts Creek.

“The new buses will help us better connect people and communities on the Sunshine Coast” says Manuel Achadinha, BC Transit President and Chief Executive Officer.

The buses are funded through the province and through BC Transit’s local government lease fee program. Each bus will cost $319,807 and can seat 24 passengers with room for another 20 people standing. There is also space for two mobility aids. Buses will also have CCTV cameras to improve safety.

One of the new buses will be unveiled to the public by participating in the Sea Cavalcade parade in Gibsons on Saturday July 29th.
