In its eighth week at the box office, “Bob Marley: One Love” raked in $607,000, surpassing the 2019 Elton John biopic “Rocketman” to claim the fifth spot for highest-grossing musician biopics in domestic box-office history. Starring Kingsley Ben-Adir as the iconic reggae figure, the film has amassed a total of $96.6 million in the United States and Canada as of April 7th, according to data from boxofficemojo.com.

“Rocketman” accumulated $96.4 million throughout its screening period. Both Marley and Elton John rose to international prominence during the 1970s. However, while “Rocketman” celebrated an artist’s triumph over personal struggles and his extensive and diverse career, “Bob Marley: One Love” portrays a more somber narrative. Marley succumbed to an aggressive form of skin cancer in 1981 at the young age of 36.
