9th Annual Winter Carnival at The Point Artist-Run Centre

Based on the weather outside, it’s difficult to tell what season we’re in. According to the calendar, we’re halfway through winter, and as such, it’s time to get ready for this year’s edition of The Point’s annual Winter Carnival.

Revived last year after a few years hiatus, it was evident by the turnout we had that the community had missed this family friendly event. Back again to celebrate the Family Day long weekend, this year’s Winter Carnival will be spread out over two days.

Sunday, February 18th will see another one of The Point’s much talked about dinner shows from 6pm-10:30pm (Doors at 6pm with Dinner Tickets; 7pm for Show Only Tickets). Kicking the evening off, ticket holders will be treated to a set of tunes from local accordion maestro Thomas Studer. Diners will enjoy a hearty winter feast prepared by one of our guest chefs, with a vegetarian option available. Dinner will be followed by the annual Winter Art Auction, before we get to our headliner, East Vancouver’s C.R. Avery and the Storm Collective. Featuring a five-piece band with horns, the night will be jumping with C.R. Avery’s inimitable songwriting blending hip hop, folk and rock with harmonica blues and beat-boxing madness. Back from a recent New Zealand tour, the band is tightly honed and ready to roll. Make sure you’ve got your dancing shoes with you!

Family Day, Monday, February 19th, will feature an afternoon of family friendly activities from 12pm-4pm.  Be prepared to enjoy numerous all-ages activities including snow sculpting, ice dancing and donut-eating competitions, DJ Ira Dance Party (1pm), curling and shinny (ice permitting), costumed characters, live campfire music from Greg Kelly and Thomas Studer, and a tickle trunk with winter costumes (or bring your own). What a great way to spend BC Family Day!

A selection of beer and wines will be available for purchase from Harrop’s Bar.

Monday Carnival Events are FREE!

Lunch, and hot and cold drinks will be available for purchase from the Cypress Point Café and Harrop’s Bar.
