Sea to Sky Student Film Festival



Calling Sea to Sky Corridor high school students! The Sea to Sky region is known for inspiring adventurers and storytellers. Whistler Secondary wants to see how it inspires you in its annual Short Film Festival. Submit your 3 to 5 minute short film to win over $2,000 in prizes including Cat skiing with Powder Mountain Snowcats! You have until April 1st to submit your film.

The competition is open to grade 8 to 12 students residing in Squamish, Whistler, Pemberton and Mt. Currie, and attending a SD48 or independent school with a phone, GoPro or camera, and story to tell. All footage must be recent, from 2024. Register on Film Freeway and start filming!!

Creativity is your only limit. Student filmmakers are tasked to shoot, edit and produce a 3 to 5 minute short film – taking their creative vision from concept to reality. The top films will premiere on the big screen for an audience of over 300 at Whistler Secondary. Over $2,000 in prizes will be awarded to the top three films plus a People’s Choice Award chosen by the audience.

There are no limitations on how the film is shot or how you interpret the theme. You can shoot live-action, animation, stop-motion, documentary, use actors, cutouts, puppets, or animals.The choice is yours! Please register on film freeway and start creating! Footage must be from 2024 and can’t be previously submitted.

The Entry Fee is $25 per film and the entry deadline is April 1, 2024 at 11:59 pm. Entrants will be notified by April 10.


The judges, composed of professional filmmakers, will select ten finalists to premiere at the Sea to Sky Student Short Film Festival event for over $2,000 in prizes for the top three films on Thursday, April 18th with doors opening at 6:30 pm, and the show starting at 7:00 pm at Whistler Secondary (8000 Alpine Way). Tickets are $10 per person.


The People’s Choice Award will be given to the fan favorite voted at the Film Festival, so make sure your friends and family come to support your film. The top 10 finalists will receive two tickets per team to attend the Whistler Secondary Short Film Festival


Proceeds raised will support the WSS 2024 graduating class fundraising campaign.
