Travel, Place, Identity: Unpacking the Idea of Home

May 17 | 7pm | Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre | Tickets $22

How is our sense of self influenced by where we live, or where we travel? What will we find when we examine our sense of place under the microscope? Are we who we think we are? What does home mean, and do we change if it changes? Join moderator Leslie Anthony and authors Pat Ardley (Grizzlies, Gales and Giant Salmon: Life at a Rivers Inlet Fishing Lodge), Becky Livingston (The Suitcase and the Jar: Travels with a Daughter’s Ashes), Geoff Powter (Inner Ranges: An Anthology of Mountain Thoughts and Mountain People) and Frank Wolf (Lines on a Map: Unparalleled Adventures in Modern Exploration) for intimate readings and a conversation on how travel, place and identity are entwined with what we call home.

Finding the Words for Adventure with Geoff Powter

Sat. May 18 | 3 – 4:30pm | Whistler Public Library | Free

Writing the lives of a tribe can be a challenge. With their unique rituals, totems and taboos, tribes can be hard for outsiders to understand — and this is as true for the tribe of outdoor adventurers as it is for any other. Join award-winning book and magazine author Geoff Powter as he tells the stories behind the stories in his new anthology Inner Ranges: An Anthology of Mountain Thoughts and Mountain People, and considers what it takes to get adventure writing right. Coffee and treats will fuel the conversation.
